Bensalem Community Information

Organized in 1692 by William Penn, Bensalem is located in one of the three original counties in Pennsylvania. The township consists of a number of communities, such as Andalusia, Bensalem, Neshaminy Valley, Oakford and Trevose. Each of these communities is unincorporated and maintains its own local flavor and identity. Founded by Dutch, Swedish and English settlers, Bucks County has several museums dedicated to the early days in American history.

Bensalem and the rest of surrounding Bucks County are very supportive of the arts. Eight theater companies and 15 music societies and schools are available for the enrichment of Bensalem residents. Bensalem is also home to a 3,000-seat amphitheatre for larger events. Bucks County is the home of the Delaware Valley Philharmonic Orchestra. Residents and visitors enjoy entertainment in Bucks County’s theaters – The Bristol Riverside Theatre, Headley Manor Dinner Theatre and Peddler’s Village Murder Mystery Theatre to name a few.

The Bensalem Township School District serves nearly 7,000 students in communities throughout the township. The district offers a comprehensive curriculum as well as special education and hosts a variety of community events. Bensalem schools strive to promote lifelong learning and respect, as well as to maximize each individual student’s potential.

Located just south of Bensalem and outside of Neshaminy State Park is the community of Croydon. Home to approximately 10,000 residents, Croydon is located in Bristol Township and bordered by the Delaware River on the south. Croydon residents have easy access to all the attractions of Bensalem as well as nearby Philadelphia.

The name Bensalem means “son of peace.” Residents enjoy a quiet lifestyle, outstanding recreational and employment opportunities, good schools and proximity to a major metropolitan area and a number of major roads and highways. This Bucks County community is the perfect hometown for individuals, families and businesses alike.
